I chose to investigate the Family as my Personal Investigation. The reason I chose the family as my theme is that family portraiture has been developing for years and the old and modern contrasting techniques offer a lot of modern photographers to adapt the old techniques into modern photographs. My family, is also something I photograph on a daily basis, however I wanted to depict them in a way that tells a story along with allowing for older portraiture techniques throughout.
Furthermore, I was inspired by the work I did in AS, as I developed a lot of portrait work. However I wanted to develop from this work and use new techniques to portray how the family was photographed when portraiture was first available and how it has improved over the years to the vastly accessible way of sharing our family life with others with the click of a button.
For the start of my project I have focused on the exploration of pregnancy. My older sister is pregnant with her first baby and I initially want to explore this as a topic for the basis of my personal investigation. I also want to look at generational photography in relation to the title of my project 'Family'.
I have started this by taking photos of more classically thought out photos of my sister and her pregnancy bump. I have also looked at the similarities between me and my brother as a starting point to the generational side of my project.
Furthermore, I have also investigated the older people in my family, for example taking photos of my Grandad throughout the summer and also close ups of his features to represent the differences and similarities between not only generations within my family but also the different ages between my family.
