Development~Old family photos...

For the development of my project I wanted to incorporate some of my own old family photos. I did this because it shows the formality of family portraits, through the positioning and practiced stances that create 'professional family photography'. I will be presenting these photos in an old photo album, similar to the ones used in the 18th century when early family portraiture through photographs was first introduced. I am presenting them in this way to portray the privatised view society had on the family in those days. Underneath each photograph will be the date of when it was taken and the people in each image will be labelled. I will also be experimenting using sewing to depict the idea of 'family ties' throughout the album. The sewing will also add texture to the imagery, as they are old and dated photographs, the embroidery will modernise the look of the photos.
I chose to use my own old family photos as they were shot in a similar way to how the first photographic portraits would have been shot, with plain and dull backgrounds, black and white and very pre prepared, statuesque facial expressions, that don't show the reality of the relationships within the image.
I chose photos of the whole family as well as individual ones of just the siblings to show the dynamic of the family within each shot. I also chose photographs that portrayed the same posing as the ones done in the 18th century to emphasise the link between my investigation and my project.
